Weekly Update
This Sunday: 11.00 am Sunday @11 : Angie Tunstall is with us to talk about “The Big Lunch”.
BBT Ghanaian Led Worship is at 1.30pm.
Street for Prayer is: Weatherall Street.
ALL FM 96.9: Kids Club: Ian is presenting a new Kids Club programme on ALL FM starting today and to be broadcast initially over 4 Fridays with the hope to continue beyond. The programme will involve children from local primary schools. Ideas from children welcomed. The programme will be weekly on a Friday between 4 and 5pm. In Manchester ALL FM is on 96.9 FM. Outside of Manchester it can be heard on the web: www.allfm.org
Connect at the Retreat: Our Urban Expression group “Connect” restarts on March 28th in the evening at the Retreat Cafe on Stockport Rd. Connect is a group which is an open journey of exploring Christian spirituality and is particularly suited for those who want to consider faith issues outside of the box. No topic is unmentionable or unquestionable. There will be food available at Connect too.
Environmental audit and information day: Can we urge you to consider putting April 17th in your diary to join us as we consider the environmental implications of the way we operate as LBC. Faiths4change will lead us through the day (10-4) and will provide lunch. It would be helpful for a range of user groups to take part to get a flavour of how we use the building. It looks set to be a good day and will set the way forward for us in our desire to be an energy efficient community, an environmental educator and a power generating building.
Swap Shop: Saturday 10th April: 2.30pm. Having outgrown the community room at the library, the Swap Shop event is moving to LBC’s building. The idea is simple but a good one. You have clothes to donate, you take clothes that someone else has donated. A chance for a new free wardrobe. Nothing to donate? Then you can make a donation instead. Fair trade refreshments will also be available. More details to follow.
Rachel in Prague: Rachel has been asked to represent Northern Baptist Learning Community in a conference next week. She will be away from Monday to Friday at the conference in Prague.
Youth Work Forum: The forum for those interested in youth work in Levenshulme is on Monday afternoon from 2.00pm at LBC’s building.
The Age of Stupid: 4 Avenues Residents Association are planning to screen the environmental blockbuster “The Age of Stupid” on Wed 14th April at LBC. All are welcome.
Announcing Easter: April 4th: Following on from it’s value last year, we will be having an Easter morning Sunrise gathering/service again early at the picnic area in Highfield Country Park. More details to follow. Our Easter 11.00 worship is taking the theme of “An environmental Easter”. On Good Friday we have a reflection at LBC building at 10.00am and this is followed by the churches together in Levenshulme silent march along Stockport Road, finishing with a reflection at St Peters church.
Announcing LBC Christmas day: April 25th!: As many are away on the more traditional Christmas day in December we are to have an LBC family Christmas day on April 25th. All are welcome to join us in singing carols and sharing food on that day. More info to follow. 25th April is also our church anniversary and is therefore our gift day (appropriate for Christmas!). Can we ask you to consider giving towards the heating installation costs. The costs from LBC budget for this work amount to £650 and it would be good if we were able to cover that on the gift day. Thank you in advance.
Kids Club: Thanks to Manchester Vinelife for resourcing Kids Club for the last 3 years. Monday was their last Kids Club and we need to consider how we might continue a commitment to this age group. We also need to consider how we might begin an older group. Ideas welcome
Thursday Night Bible Study Group: Thursday at 7.30pm. See Bill or Rachel for more details. Grow: Mondays at 7.45pm at Kate and Matts.
Narcotics Anonymous: This has been a popular group on a Tuesday and a second group has now started on Wednesday evenings.
ALL FM 96.9: From Dave Murat, Intergenerational project co-ordinator:
If you’re over 50 or under 25 and want to get involved in radio we want to hear from you.
“All young people in hoodies hang around on street corners and show no respect”
“Old people moan all the time and only talk about the war”
These are widely held misconceptions that we know aren’t true and we’ve created a radio project to prove it.
By bringing people under 25 and over 50 together to share their skills and experiences we will dispel these myths and bring about a better understanding of different generations in our local community. We’re creating a new team of people who will create radio content around issues affecting the older and younger member of our community.
You don’t need any previous radio experience, and you don’t have to talk on air as we need producers, researchers, reporters and even someone to make the tea! You do need a willingness to work with people from a generation different to yours, to gain new friends and have fun in the safe, diverse environment that we’ve created here at AllFM.
If you’d like to find out more, we’ll be holding regular taster sessions and meetings, so call Dave Murat on 0161 248 6888 or email dave@allfm.org for more info and to ask any questions.
